Are you looking to erase facial wrinkles caused by smoking, sun damage, weight loss, or illness? Look no further than Radiesse, expertly administered by one of our aesthetic professionals at Novo Med Spa in Frisco, TX. If you’ve heard of this treatment but aren’t sure it’s right for you, keep reading to learn everything you need to know. Let’s get started.
How Long Does Radiesse Last?
You’re almost ready to take the plunge. You’re finally fed up with looking at your sad, tired, wrinkled face in the mirror every morning. You don’t even look at your reflection in shop windows anymore. You have finally decided you want to make a change.
But let’s be honest. Who wants to spend their lunch break coming in to get poked with needles once a week? Nobody, that’s who. At Novo Med Spa in Frisco, TX, we get that. That’s why we offer Radiesse. This FDA-approved treatment provides results that easily last between 12 and 18 months, and that’s without you even trying to extend the results.
Is It Possible to Make the Results Last Longer?
Absolutely! You just have to decide that’s what you want to do. You do need to be committed to making healthy lifestyle choices to accomplish this, though, because at the end of the day, if you keep your body healthy, your skin will look younger and more beautiful.
What Do I Have to Do?
The things you need to do to extend your Radiesse results are things everyone should already be doing to stay healthy. First, make sure your new best friend is your bottle of water. Carry it with you everywhere you go. Download an app on your phone to remind you to drink from it every hour. Drink at least half a gallon of water daily.
Second, make sure you are wearing at least a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen. UV rays are one of the leading causes of wrinkles, spots, and other signs of aging.
What Should I Not Do?
We are so glad you asked. One of the best things you can do for your overall health, and the duration of your Radiesse results, is to stop consuming nicotine.
Throw away your can of dip. Throw out the emergency pack of cigarettes in the door of your truck. Don’t buy e-liquid from the gas station or your local vape shop. And don’t buy smoking cessation aids, like chewing gum or patches with nicotine. Nicotine destroys your existing collagen and slows your skin’s ability to produce new collagen.
How Soon Does This Filler Work?
Luckily for you, you won’t be waiting with bated breath for your dermal filler treatment to start working. The great thing about this injection is it starts to work right away.
As soon as the calcium hydroxylapatite is injected between the deep layer of your skin and your muscle, you will notice a significant smoothing of your skin. But the benefits don’t stop there. As time marches on, the filler fades slowly. But within four to six weeks of your treatment, your skin has produced enough collagen to take the place of the filler.
Is This Treatment Limited to the Face?
Absolutely not! This treatment is FDA-approved to safely and effectively treat wrinkles, sagging skin, and volume loss. Period. End of story. If you have recently suffered an illness and have volume loss-related wrinkles on the backs of your hands, this may be the dermal filler for you.
Is This Treatment a Good Alternative to Cheek Augmentation?
Absolutely! The obvious benefits of cheek augmentation are that it lifts and tightens sagging skin and adds volume to re-contour your cheeks. Your cheeks are one of the first parts of your face to show signs of aging, and you deserve to feel confident in your skin. But that doesn’t mean cheek augmentation is right for you.
If you’re not healthy enough for an invasive procedure, you don’t have the time or you don’t have the money, this is the perfect alternative. There is minimal preparation required, treatment is over in under an hour, there is no pain or downtime, and recovery downtime is non-existent.
How Should I Prepare for Treatment?
This varies slightly on a case-by-case basis. For example, if you are taking any pharmaceuticals or nutritional supplements that can thin your blood, you must stop that for two weeks unless explicitly directed otherwise by your primary care physician. But there are some universal guidelines for preparing for your treatment.
First, do not consume nicotine or alcohol in the 14 days leading up to your treatment. You may feel like these substances relax you, but they really stress your body to the max, blowing your blood pressure up. Second, wash your face gently with warm water before you come in for treatment. And don’t wear makeup or jewelry. You can put these on afterwards.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
If you are wearing makeup and jewelry, we will remove them. Then, we will sanitize the treatment area with a medical-grade, alcohol-based antiseptic to prevent infection. The single-use needles we use are sterile, but we don’t want any contaminants on the surface of your skin getting beneath your skin when we administer the medication.
Once your skin is nice and clean, we will carefully mark the injection points. Then, we will administer the dermal filler to the appropriate depth beneath your skin based on your facial structure and the results you are trying to achieve. After that, we will schedule your next session and talk about how you should care for your skin. That’s it!
Will Treatment Hurt?
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. However, the needle used to administer the medication is so fine that it is not painful at all. Some clients are uncomfortable with feeling the needle penetrate their skin. If that sounds like you, just let us know during your initial consultation.
We are more than happy to apply ice or a topical numbing cream to the treatment site to ensure you don’t feel anything at all during your session. Just be aware that it can take around 15 minutes for the anesthetic to numb your skin. Therefore, you will want to account for this if you usually only have a 30-minute lunch break.
What Should I Do After My Session?
As stated previously, there is absolutely no downtime following this treatment and there isn’t a recovery period, either. You are free to return to work, school or whatever else is on your calendar.
However, we highly recommend that you avoid any activities that can elevate your blood pressure or expose you to excessive heat during the first 24 hours after your session. Examples include smoking, drinking alcohol, performing high-intensity exercises and relaxing in a sauna or steam room.
Is There Anything Else I Should Avoid?
If there is anything else you should avoid based on your medical history and current health status, we will let you know during your initial consultation. Unless we advise you otherwise during your first appointment, there are no other restrictions on your daily routine.
However, there are a couple of things you should make an effort to do. For example, you should drink at least half a gallon of water within 24 hours of treatment. If possible, drink a full gallon of water. Also, be sure to wear sunscreen for two weeks after treatment and reapply it as instructed on the bottle.
Am I a Good Candidate for This Filler?
The only way to know for sure if this treatment is right for you is to come in for an initial consultation. That way, we can examine the underlying structure of your face and talk about your aesthetic goals. Even if it is right for you, you may need another injectable or two to round out your look and help you get the biggest self-confidence boost possible.
Generally, the best candidate for this filler is an adult between the ages of 35 and 60 who wants to smooth moderate-to-severe folds around the mouth and nose. If you’re younger and have mild folds, lines and wrinkles, you may choose between holding off on treatment and receiving a smaller dose.
Will I Have to Take a Skin Prick Test?
One of the major disadvantages of a lot of dermal filler treatments is they use unnatural ingredients. A reputable service provider will administer a skin prick test to see if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. But that’s no fun, and you have to wait at least a day to see the results of your test.
This dermal filler uses only natural ingredients. And while people are diagnosed with allergies to natural chemical compounds, like lactic acid (milk protein), all the time, you don’t have to worry about any of the ingredients in this filler. Every single one of them is hypoallergenic.
What Else Can I Do to Improve My Look?
This depends entirely on your health and which skin concerns you have. One of the many great things about this injectable is it plays well with others. If you’re having trouble with pesky smoker’s lines, worry lines, frown lines or smile lines, your wrinkles are caused by hyperactive muscles.
Such lines, wrinkles and folds can only be treated with a neuromodulator, such as Xeomin, Botox or Dysport. The right neuromodulator treatment for your unique needs will depend primarily on the severity and location of the lines and wrinkles you are treating.
What Can I Expect During Neuromodulator Treatment?
These treatments are also injected with a fine-gauge needle. The dosage, number of injections, and location of injections will all depend on the aesthetic goals you are trying to achieve. For more information on what to expect, please give us a call to book an appointment.
