Can Injectables Help Me Reduce Facial Lines?
It’s not unusual to begin to see wrinkles in your 30s,or 40s. These lines can appear as natural signs of aging, or they may be due to repetitive facial expressions. Whatever the cause, lines and wrinkles can be a source of frustration to anyone seeking to maintain the youthful look of their face.
Cosmetic injectables with neurotoxins can smooth out wrinkles where they have occurred. In some cases, they may prevent lines from appearing. Read on to find out how injectables can assist you in obtaining your skin goals!
What Are Injectables?
Neurotoxin injectables are the most popular cosmetic treatment procedure in the United States. Known as wrinkle-reducers, they are injected into the skin to help smooth and rejuvenate areas where lines have appeared.
Injectables containing botulinum toxin type A are used to treat specific wrinkles and lines that commonly appear on the face. Two of the most common injectables are Botox and Dysport, which are both offered by Novo Med Spa.
Botox is commonly used to reduce lines that have formed over time in the face. These lines may appear when you make certain expressions, such as smiling, frowning, or squinting.
Everyone uses facial expressions to convey emotions, and many people develop wrinkles in the areas where the skin has contracted frequently. Common areas that are treated with Botox include:
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
- Forehead lines
The use of Botox will relax the nerves that cause muscle movements when making facial expressions, resulting in a smoother, less-lined appearance.
At Novo Med Spa, we also use Botox to assist in smoothing marionette lines, bunny lines around the nose, and lip flips. Other uses include treating excessive sweating and TMJ.
Dysport is similar to Botox in that it is also a neurotoxin formulated with botulinum toxin type A. It relaxes the nerve impulses that typically cause expression lines to form, resulting in a smoothed-out area at the place of injection.
This injectable is commonly used to treat frown lines that appear between the eyebrows, also known as “11s.” In some cases, it may also be used for crow’s feet or forehead creases.
Why Should I Use Neurotoxin Injectables Instead of Dermal Fillers?
People often think that dermal fillers and neurotoxins are interchangeable, but they are not. Botox and Dysport use botulinum toxin type A as their main ingredient, while dermal fillers include hyaluronic acid.
They also have different mechanisms for achieving their results. While Botox and Dysport block the nerve impulses that result in wrinkles, dermal fillers are used to plump and round out areas of the face that have begun sagging or have lost volume.
Finally, the types of wrinkles or areas that are treated are different. Botox and Dysport are commonly used to reduce lines, crow’s feet, and expression lines. Dermal fillers are used to plump the lips, fill in areas that have become hollow due to a loss of volume, or contour specific areas of the face.
When you set up a consultation at Novo Med Spa, we’ll review the goals you are seeking to obtain. Once we understand the results you are seeking, we will set up a treatment plan that is appropriate for you. If you are seeking to improve the appearance of crow’s feet or forehead wrinkles, we will likely recommend injectables.
What Can I Expect During a Botox or Dysport Treatment?
At Novo Med Spa, we are often able to perform your consultation and treatment in the same session. Our highly skilled team is qualified to perform injectable treatments, and we’ll begin your appointment with a thorough examination of the facial area. We’ll work with you to understand your goals and the areas that you want to smooth out.
During the consultation, we’ll need to have an understanding of your medical history. You may also feel free to ask us any questions that you may have related to the treatment.
Once you agree to the treatment plan, we’ll begin by fully cleansing the areas to be treated. You’ll be asked to make specific expressions, like frowning, smiling, or showing anger. This allows us to determine where the muscles are that cause the lines that are appearing on your skin.
We’ll inject either Botox or Dysport into these areas, depending on which is a better fit for your unique needs.
The entire procedure is very short and generally lasts less than half an hour. Once you’ve finished, you can return to your regular activities. The results may not be immediately apparent but will gradually show within five to seven days.
How Long Do Results from Injectables Last?
The results that you receive from injectables will last anywhere from three to four months. It completely varies depending on the person, the area treated, and whether Botox or Dysport is used. Once the injectable begins to wear off, you can have a touch-up performed to maintain your results.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Injectables?
Potentially anyone is a good candidate for injectables. If you’re concerned about the appearance of wrinkles or want to potentially prevent them from occurring, speak with one of our trained providers. We will discuss your unique situation and design an appropriate treatment plan that fits your needs.
